St. Francis CARE was founded by several volunteers in 2006. Today, we rely on over 150 dedicated volunteers to keep St. Francis CARE operating. Volunteers are involved in virtually every aspect of St. Francis CARE, from helping find animals home to helping keep up the grounds around our building. No matter what you want to do, we have a place for you. We cannot do what we do without the help and dedication of our volunteers.
1. You must be 16 years of age and have an approved volunteer application.
2. If you are under 16, you must always have a guardian present when you volunteer, and your application must be pre-approved.
3. You (and your guardian, if you are under 16) must complete a volunteer training seminar. These are held monthly.
Whether you want to volunteer on-site (cat caretaker, dog walker, puppy caretaker) or off-site (adoptions, fundraising, community events), we have something to suit you. We work with your schedule to find what works best for you.
If you are interested in becoming part of our volunteer family, please fill out an application below and our volunteer coordinator will contact you with more information about the different opportunities we have available.
We do offer volunteer opportunities for those needing to complete community service hours. You are not required to complete a training seminar until you have completed your set number of hours with us. You will be able to walk dogs, fold newspapers, help keep up the grounds, and clean different areas at St. Francis CARE. You will not be directly handling any of our more “high-risk” animals such as the puppies. If you would like to complete your term of community service with us, find the printable (pdf) application here. Or you can click here for our online form. Our volunteer coordinator will set up a time for you to come out and begin completing your hours.
This must be pre-approved by your parole officer or head of your organization.
If you are completing hours for a school club or project, the paperwork verifying such must be given to our Volunteer Coordinator at the beginning of your term of service.
We are certified for volunteer hours for SIU.
