You must be 18 years of age to adopt! You must have an approved application to meet our adoptable animals. In person applications can't always be approved on the spot.
Our adoption fees include spay or neuter, microchip, and vaccines up to and including the rabies vaccine. All of our dogs over the age of 6 months are checked for heartworm disease. If the dog tested negative, we will have started it on heartworm preventative. If the dog tested positive, we will treat it. All of our adoptable cats are screened for FeLV/FIV.
Illinois law mandates that animal shelters sterilize all cats and dogs before adoption, with enforcement by local authorities. This is part of a broader animal welfare framework designed to reduce overpopulation and improve animal welfare.
St. Francis CARE will not adopt dogs or cats to homes where they will spend their whole life outside.
